Clinical observations of 23 cases of rickets

Abstract
|
|
|
Twenty three cases of rickets, diagnosed and treated at our department for recent five and a half years until June of 1974, forms the basis of this report, in which the evaluation of the prevalence and the nature of deformity and pathophysiology has been done. This disease entity, whose prevalence has hitherto; been assumed to have declined, has regained the increasing tendency.
Major presenting symptoms manifested with deformities of bow-leg, knock knee, and tackle deformities, -particularly of the knee and ankle joints and the skeletal X-ray changes in this series could be placed in the 2nd and 3rd stages of Lovett´s classification,
Among the various medical and surgical treatment, the single dose of calciferol as Sterogyl-15 in 600,000 I, U. was the method of choice in all 23 cases and in addition application of bow-leg or knock-knee brace, Denis-Browne splint and corrective shoes for the deformity.
